The Thalasseri Fort

A spectacular town built on Seven hills served by seven rivers, was the first settlement of the East India Company, which built a fort at Tellicherry in 1708.
Tellicherry is well known for the three C's; Cricket, Circus and Cakes. Cowdrey Senior, the father of former English Cricket legend Colin Cowdrey, played cricket in Tellicherry.
The old English Church has a haunting charm. The Holy Rosary Church is the oldest Catholic Church in the district. In the heart of the city stands the 500 years old Odathil Palli or the Garden Mosque. The Sree Rama Temple at Thiruvangad is one of the oldest temples in Tellicherry.The Jagannatha Temple built by the great saint Sree Narayana Guru is unique.

The enchanting ambience of the Muzhapilangad Beach invites you to swim, sunbathe or just lounge around.
The Folly on the Hill, sloping from the sub-collector's bungalow to the rocks below, came to be popularly known as Overbury's Folly. It was designed and laid out by Overbury, an early British Sub-collector. Here one could enjoy breathtaking vistas of the sea.

Hermann Gundert

Edward Brennen founded an English School at Tellicherry in 1859.William Logan, the author of 'The Malabar Manual', was Sub-collector at Tellicherry during 1867-70. In his memory we have Logan's road in the heart of the town.
Dr. Hermann Gundert is a household name because of his yeoman contribution to Malayalam literature. His lexicon has few parallels till date. The Gundert bungalow, built by Strange, an English Jurist, is strategically located on a hill at Illikunnu. Nobel Laureate Hermann Hesse's mother (Gundert's daughter) was born in Tellicherry.

Theyyam

Tellicherry is also known as the cultural capital of North Kerala. Theyyam, the vibrant ritual dance of north Kerala, has tremendous charisma. The performances have a hypnotic power that could mesmerise the audience.
Keeleri Kunhikannan pioneered the training of circus artistes a 100 years ago. Tellicherry had been the home of some the best circus artistes in the country.
Heroic sagas and legends abound in Tellicherry and its neighbourhood; the seat of the martial art Kalaripayattu. There is authentic proof to suggest that Kalari was the oldest form of martial art in history and hence it is considered the forerunner of Karate and Kungfu. Kalarichikitsa, a special medical treatment for diseases as well as toning up of the body, has attracted renowned sports persons.
