Kallumakkai (mussels) is indeed the seafood speciality of this region. Tuck into Malabar Chicken curry and Idiappams (string hoppers) with a glass of coconut milk. Relish fragrant Malabar Biriyani accompanied by spicy Fried Prawns or Steamed Tapioca with fish curry. One could also try the traditional brown rice with Avial (vegetable curry tempered with coconut milk and a variety of homegrown spices). Most of the Kerala dishes are creamed generously with coconut milk.

The Kinnathappam (local cake) has satisfied many a sweet tooth. Enjoy Payasam; slow-cooked rice, vermicelli or pulses in jaggery or sugar, ghee, coconut milk or milk.
